Time to reflect...There are many materistic things we keep in life, like cards, letters and photos. These are generally treasures from loved ones, mentors, and teachers, who have been apart of our lives.

As a martial artist, most of our memories have been stored within us and we share these treasures when we teach, we give a little of ourselves to others, from what we have learnt. We hopefully give back to those who have given to us. This might not be directly to them, maybe their stories, passion and respect for others. We call this process, "Paying it foward".

As the year closes, think of those that have taught you something, supported you, coached you, gave you feedback and advice. These moments and lessons in life have shaped you and these people have helped mould you into the person you are today.

Below is a photo of my belts I have worn, it doesn't show my journey, hard work, time spent training, injuries, my story, friendships formed or my faults, flaws and all the times I have failed.

What it does show, is that I have set goals and all the times I have failed and felt like quitting, I have taken the next step, I have stuck to my principles, I have risen from each failure and not given up.

- Shihan Sam Koch

On a side note.... It also demonstrates I have grown a little wider over those years :) ...
