AJJA on Facebook

I hope this isn't inappropriate, and I'll happily co-operate if this posts would be better in another space -- but I think this is a good place to share it.

As Covid closed us down last year, I thought I'd undertake a project that a number of my students had requested: the writing of a simple handbook aimed at collating and presenting a range of simple, fundamental techniques for students in ju-jitsu. I thought initially I'd just make it available to my own students, but I've run it past some of our senior folks in the AJJA and it's been suggested there may be value for others in the work -- so I'm presenting links here.

This is not intended as a comprehensive guide. (I don't think that's possible, to be honest!) But it can definitely help students recall basic techniques and Japanese nomenclature -- which is all that my students wanted.

The book contains basic throws, strikes, blocks, strangles, ground-holds, joint-locks, and terminology. It's fully illustrated with simple line drawings, and hopefully (seeing as how in my not-so-martial life I'm a writer) the explanations are reasonably clear.

I'm sure there are errors here and there in the work -- but I regard it as a first edition, and I expect to update it from time to time. If you find something in it that seems completely off-base, don't hesitate to drop me a line.
